CPD: Actuarial Data Scientist Program: Fifth edition - Module 1 (16 CPD)

IA|BE Actuarial Data Scientist Certificate - Fifth Edition Starting Autumn 2026

AI isn't replacing actuaries, it's raising the bar. The ones who thrive understand both the models and the mathematics behind them. That's what this program delivers.

For the fifth year, IA|BE offers the Actuarial Data Scientist Certificate: a rigorous, practical grounding in the key data science methods, where they apply, and how they connect to classical actuarial techniques.

You'll also build real engineering skill, model deployment, MLOps, object-oriented programming, code management (GitHub), and software engineering principles. In a market full of black-box tools, that's the edge: knowing not just how to run a model, but how to deploy, manage, and defend it.

How it works
Three modules, each with a hands-on assignment and combining 4 theory and 4 programming sessions. Theory is taught by professors from KU Leuven, UCLouvain, and Université Libre de Bruxelles; programming in cooperation with Milliman. Complete all three to earn the Certificate. Modules can also be taken separately.

Module 1 Foundations of Machine Learning in Actuarial Sciences
Start from familiar ground - (generalized) linear models as classification and regression problems - then build step by step toward modern deep learning, strengthening your actuarial foundation along the way.

Module 2 Machine Learning for Classification and Regression
Builds from classification and regression trees up to competition-winning ensemble methods (starting beginning of February 2027)

Module 3 Advanced Topics in Machine Learning
Building on the two previous modules, this module introduces transparency and ethics in machine learning. You'll explore the importance and choice of variables, their (additive) contributions to a model's behavior, and the causal relations behind them (starting mid September 2027).

Assignment & feedback
Each module concludes with a hands-on assignment. Participants who would like detailed, personalized feedback on their assignment can select the Assignment + Feedback ticket at registration, for an additional €40.

Price (per module)
Standard: Members: €960, Non-members: €1,200
With detailed feedback (+€40): Members: €1,000, Non-members: €1,240

Practical details
Sessions run online. Places are limited to 25 to keep the programming sessions interactive. Early registration recommended.
