Storytelling for Actuaries
In today's data-driven world, sound decisions depend on figures people actually understand, and actuaries play a crucial role in explaining complex results to management, the board of directors and other non-actuarial stakeholders. In this immersive 3-hour web session, actuaries explore storytelling and how it can sharpen their communication and impact: after a concise grounding in the fundamentals, the majority of the time is spent on practice, transforming data into stories, adapting the same result into different narratives for the board, management and technical peers, and, as the core of the session, developing your own story from results you bring with you, using a template and sharing in small groups.
Target audience
The session is suited for actuaries with a few years of experience in their field who want to convey a clearer and more impactful message through storytelling. You'll get much more out of it if you prepare a set of results relevant to your own work in advance. Numbers or graphs may be fictional for confidentiality reasons, as you'll build your own story around these.
Practical info
It's helpful to know a few days in advance which actuarial field participants work in (life, non-life, pension or other), so the group exercise can be tailored to the audience.
