IA|BE Solvency II Advanced - Pillar II: Sustainability Risk
Sustainability risk, encompassing climate-related, environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks, has moved from a niche topic to a central element of the Solvency II supervisory agenda. Insurers are increasingly expected to integrate sustainability risks into their system of governance, risk management framework and ORSA, and supervisory scrutiny in this area is intensifying across Europe. This session provides a rigorous treatment of sustainability risk under Pillar II, covering the regulatory requirements introduced by the 2021 Solvency II delegated acts and the broader ESG agenda driven by EIOPA. Participants will examine how climate-related physical and transition risks are identified and assessed, how they translate into quantifiable impacts on the balance sheet and SCR, and how they are integrated into the ORSA, including the use of climate scenarios and long-term sensitivity analyses.
The session also addresses the governance requirements around sustainability risk, the role of the risk management and actuarial functions, and the interaction with SFDR and CSRD obligations. Attention is given to supervisory expectations and the findings from EIOPA's climate stress tests, as well as the implications of the 2026 Solvency II review for sustainability risk integration.
This session is suited for actuaries and insurance professionals involved in risk management, the ORSA, compliance or governance at Belgian insurers or reinsurers who want to deepen their understanding of sustainability risk integration under Solvency II.
