On 16 June 2026, IA|BE successfully hosted its third Lunch Talk, once again bringing together members for an inspiring lunchtime session.
Our guest speaker was Emeritus Professor Jean Paul Van Bendegem, who, in his characteristic engaging and thought-provoking style, explored the fascinating topic:
"Chance and Randomness: How Should We Deal with Them?"
Probability and chance are part of our everyday lives: the likelihood of rain, the chance that a train will be delayed, or the odds of winning the lottery. But what exactly do probabilities represent? How good are we at assessing them? And do we tend to overestimate or underestimate the role of chance in our daily decisions?
Professor Van Bendegem challenged the audience to reflect on these questions, combining philosophical insights with familiar real-life examples in a presentation that was both accessible and stimulating.
The session concluded with a lively Q&A, during which participants shared their questions and reflections, leading to an engaging exchange of ideas.
Just like the previous editions, this Lunch Talk was a great success. We would like to thank Professor Van Bendegem for his inspiring presentation and all participants for contributing to another enjoyable and interactive event.
