The IA|BE is currently looking for a General Manager to lead the Permanent Secretariat of the Institute on a part-time basis.
About IA|BE
The Institute of Actuaries in Belgium (IA|BE) is a membership organisation in support of the actuarial community in Belgium. Its purpose is to defend the professional interest of its members and of the actuarial profession in Belgium. It brings together actuaries across sectors and plays a key role in their professional development, community building, and representing the profession towards external stakeholders.
The Institute has more than 1.200 members and is still growing. A small staff (the permanent secretariat) takes care of the daily management of the Institute under the supervision of the General Manager, who is appointed by the Board.
The role
IA|BE is looking for a General Manager to lead the day-to-day management of the Institute and support the delivery of its strategic priorities. Working closely with the Board, the General Manager plays a central role in managing the IA|BE activities, serving the IA|BE members, fostering the IA|BE actuarial community, and enhancing the visibility and impact of the actuarial profession in Belgium.
Key responsibilities
Organisational leadership & operations
- Oversee the day-to-day running of IA|BE
- Ensure continuity, efficiency, and high-quality delivery of activities
- Manage resources effectively in a lean organisational setup
Strategy execution
- Translate Board-defined strategy into concrete actions and initiatives
- Drive progress on key priorities and report on outcomes
- Lead the preparation of the board meetings and offsites
Governance & stakeholder management
- Support the Board in governance and decision-making processes
- Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders
- Oversee the support for the different Working Groups and Task Forces
- Ensure proper follow-through of all official documents and processes
Financial Management
- Supervise the accounts of the IA|BE and inform the Board on a regular basis on the latest financial position
- Improve the financial management at the IA|BE through governance, policies and procedures
Member engagement & community building
- Strengthen member engagement across the actuarial community
- Foster the members’ sense of belonging within the IA|BE actuarial community
- Support the organisation of events, communications, and initiatives
External representation
- Contribute to elevating the visibility and positioning of the actuarial profession in Belgium
Profile
- Strong knowledge of the Belgian actuarial landscape and understanding of the functioning of the Institute
- Ability to develop a strategic vision
- Experience in leading teams and driving change
- Ability to operate independently in a flexible, part-time setup
